Holy bajeezus, Buster Becile anyone? Live performance w/some pretty amazing bots.
I saw this video a few months back. I’m glad it’s surfaced here. It’s bloody amazing.
Let’s take a look at what’s happening here:
Projectors are playing back video content. I’m not sure how many projectors there are, but they are all static (non-moving) projectors.
Robotic arms are moving projection screens in 3D space. These are ridiculously expensive arms that can be programmed not within an inch of their lives, but within a MILLIMETER of their lives. Super precise.
As the arms move the projection surfaces, the projection mapping software tracks the location, angle, and rotation of the screen, and DYNAMICALLY ADJUSTS the location, angle, and rotation of the image so that it renders a consistent image on the screen.
Add to that the component of human interaction, and you’ve got one hell of a piece of art.
And as the movie states in the beginning, this was all captured by a camera. NO CGI ADDED IN POST PRODUCTION AT ALL.
The future of digital media will be wondrous indeed.
